Back in the 1950’s you could watch the mushroom clouds from atom bomb test rise from the desert floor from the Las Vegas strip, same at St George Utah. Those atomic spectacles were a big tourist draw. Though nuclear scientists in the know about the dangers of radioactive fallout would warn their own family members to stay away when testing was under way, while keeping the public in the dark about the dangers of exposure. In the 1950’s there was a notable uptick in people diagnosed with bone cancer, leukemia and other blood cancers. -Rj
